The end of 2020 marked a new beginning for us at our new space. Galeri Tokokita moved to the heart of the city! We invited some close friends to our soft opening and shared more love for all things batik in our brand new space.
We had an intimate launch of Kasih+Sayang. This collection features 90 pieces of hand-drawn batik, each bearing a distinct motif that explores the notion of Love. We were entertained by Farida Ali and Din Safari as the models showcased 6 different looks from the collection.
Baju by Oniatta, in collaboration with Playhao, launched a collection of children’s wear in hand-stamped batik. The collection features a palette of celebratory colours for boys and girls aged 1 to 6 years old. We celebrated together with the children with a batik-making and storytelling session.
We had the pleasure of hosting Jakarta-based educator and designer Liesna Subianto as she spoke about her love for coastal batik. Her collection ‘Cinta’ was also showcased at Galeri Tokokita.
We produced a hand-stamped collection of batik called Batik Sashiko. We had our friends from FIN Crafted Goods Co. to demonstrate how a sashiko stitch is done too! Additionally, we had an insightful conversation about the Kemben as we discovered beauty behind the breastcloth.
We were privileged to have batik collector Khir Johari share his gorgeous personal collection of batiks as he spoke candidly about his love for this fabled cloth.
We were elated and humbled to finally have a physical space in the heart of Katong/Joo Chiat. The space carries the label Baju by Oniatta as well as other regional brands that celebrate batik.
Together with ‘Telling Stories Live’, helmed by Petrina Kow, we first launched the Merdeka jackets at Straits Clan. Storytellers PJ Thum, Lyna Chandra and Sharon Gonzago shared stories of freedom, liberation and independence, each cloaked in a Merdeka jacket.

Back by popular demand, we held another pop-up at Camelia and Co. We launched the Nostalgia collection. The collection was donned by Som Said, Nuraliza Osman, Andrea Razali and Anthea Ong. We also had Indonesian singer - Soukma together with Din Safari at the launch. We also invited Rengganis, an independent Indonesian brand, to join us at the pop-up.
A lovely Saturday afternoon with our friends from aNERDstore at the Green Collection at Funan, as we shared our journey as batik lovers.
An exclusive pop-up for men as we presented beautiful batik tulis fabrics and invited our batik lovers to turn them into men’s shirts. We introduced our in-house tailor, Ibu Tjiang.
Baju by Oniatta’s inaugural standalone weekend-long pop up that incorporated a lineup of exciting activities - from plays to demos to talks. Two days and we drew an interesting crowd of batik enthusiasts from all around. Our Waxing Lurikal Utama pants made a debut - featuring our signature design with batik tulis paired with lurik. We also hosted local brands Woon Hung and Shop Gypsied.

Organised by Shophouse and Co., this city trail experience featured Baju by Oniatta at Funan Show Suite. We were heartened to be part of this anchor programme for Singapore Design Week 2018.
Baju by Oniatta’s first full tulis collection was celebrated at Quintessential. An intimate trunk show with our special friends, the Chinese-inspired designs on bold batik tulis were well-received.
Baju by Oniatta was invited to be part of an event that celebrated bilateral ties between Singapore and Indonesia. Organised by ShopHouse @ Co., this weekend pop up was held at National Design Centre.
Baju by Oniatta put together a batik collection that featured colours shared by Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia - in the month of August where all three nations celebrate their independence.
Organised by multi-label boutique, En Pointe, Oniatta was featured together with Ong Shunmugam and Fern Batik Collective (Malaysia).
